Anybody have a ballpark estimate for the value of my old Gibson guitar with serial number 70078254?? I got it as a gift from a family friend with the original case. I’d say the guitar is in average shape, it’s playable and sounds fantastic. All original with minimal wear and tear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I know what the serial numbers mean, just want to know the approximate value.

It's worth everything I can get someone to pay for it. I doubt it is too valuable because the state of the art in the construction of the guitar has come a long way since he built one. Try to take a pawn shop and see what gives for it. . . that says it all.

Wow Jonathan, this is the worst advice ever. Guitars are as collectible as anything else in its own market. A rare quality guitars can sell for thousands, hundreds of thousands, if used a famous musician. A pawn shop owner knows or cares? No! The best way to obtain an estimate of the value of your guitar is to get seen in a vintage dealer, probably difficult to do if you do not live in New York or Nashville. You can also give a shot Gibson forums, some users might have sold a similar guitar there. http://www. Gibson. relations com / forum / index. asp The vintage guitars generally considered, however, were manufactured between the early 20's to early 70's. Guitars before the 20s are not considered very playable, and after the early 70's guitars saw the introduction of mass production, which diminishes its rarity. There is no easy way to tell, unfortunately, but hopefully that will give an output.
